Scripps Ranch's turnaround season rolls on
Falcons Sweep Season Series as Scripps Ranch Takes Down Madison 61-55
One year after winning just eight games all season, the Scripps Ranch Falcons are looking like a completely different team, and Madison found that out the hard way Friday night.
The Falcons traveled to Clairemont Mesa and left with a 61-55 victory over the Warhawks, completing the season sweep after winning the first matchup 67-58 back in January. More importantly, Scripps Ranch improved to a dominant 7-1 in Western League play, firmly planting themselves near the top of the conference standings.
Senior guard Gavin Hallock was the story of the night, pouring in a game-high 20 points. Here's the wild part: Hallock went a perfect 14-for-14 from the free-throw line. That kind of ice in your veins can't be taught. He also grabbed eight rebounds and added two assists for good measure.
Drew Corso contributed 12 points and dished out a team-high four assists, while Zach Jordan drilled three three-pointers off the bench for nine points. As a team, the Falcons shot 83 percent from the charity stripe, converting 20 of 24 attempts.
For Madison, the loss drops them to 17-9 overall and a .500 mark in league play at 4-4. The Warhawks, led by RJ Miller's 19.5 points-per-game average this season, entered with higher state rankings but have now dropped both meetings to the Falcons.
The turnaround at Scripps Ranch from last season's 8-20 record to this year's 15-11 mark is nothing short of remarkable. With the CIF San Diego Section playoffs on the horizon, the Falcons are playing their best basketball at exactly the right time.
