San Diego's PGA event enters new era
Last Call for the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines
San Diego's premier PGA Tour event is about to tee off for the final time under its familiar name, and the timing couldn't be sweeter.
The 2026 Farmers Insurance Open runs January 29 through February 1 at Torrey Pines Golf Course, marking the end of a 17-year relationship between the iconic La Jolla venue and its title sponsor. What started as a desperate one-year deal back in 2010 blossomed into the second-longest naming rights partnership in the tournament's history.
This year brings back the traditional Thursday-Sunday format after three years of Wednesday-Saturday scheduling designed to avoid NFL playoffs. Now fans can finally enjoy Championship Sunday the way golf intended.
The field is stacking up nicely for this farewell tour. Defending champion Harris English returns alongside top-20 players Ludvig Aberg and Justin Rose. Local favorites Charley Hoffman and Michael Kim, both San Diego natives, add hometown flair. Past champions Matthieu Pavon, Max Homa, and Luke List have also committed.
Torrey Pines remains one of golf's crown jewels, hosting its 59th tournament this year. The Pacific Ocean backdrop, challenging South Course layouts, and that legendary California winter sunshine make this one of the most televised non-major events on tour.
The numbers tell the story of Farmers' legacy: $20 million in charitable donations distributed, 12,000 volunteer hours logged, and countless memories created. Tournament CEO Marty Gorsich calls it more than just a golf event, noting the global broadcast showcases San Diego to the world while locals endure their rough January weather of 70 degrees and sunshine.
Tickets range from $75 to $450, with parking requiring advance purchase. Whatever name graces this tournament next year, Torrey Pines will remain San Diego's golfing gem.
