San Diego gets a visit from the world's most iconic hot dog

The Wienermobile makes three San Diego stops in February

San Diego, it's time to relish the moment. The iconic Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is making not one, not two, but three stops in the 619 and 858 this week, and if you've never seen a 27-foot hot dog cruising down the street, consider your bucket list about to get a little meatier.

Fresh off a swing through the LA area, the rolling wiener is heading south with stops that cover a surprising range of San Diego neighborhoods. The big frank hits the North Park Farmers Market on Thursday, February 26, rolls over to the La Mesa Village Farmers Market on Friday, February 27, and caps the San Diego leg at Santee's Fido Fest on Saturday, February 28. Yes, the Wienermobile is going to a dog festival. The irony is not lost on anyone.

The Wienermobile has been a staple of American road culture since 1936, and the current fleet of six vehicles logs hundreds of stops each year across more than 30 states. Behind the wheel are Hotdoggers, a crew of 12 recent college graduates selected from more than 5,000 applicants annually. According to Oscar Mayer, fewer people have driven the Wienermobile than have traveled to outer space. So yeah, it's a big deal.

The 27-foot fiberglass beast rides on a GM V8-powered truck chassis and draws a crowd wherever it parks. Visitors can snap photos, snag wiener whistles, and meet the Hotdoggers at what the brand calls meat and greets.

This is one of those quintessentially American road show experiences that never gets old. Whether you're hitting the North Park market for your weekly produce run or bringing the kids out to Santee, this is a free, fun, and frankly delicious excuse to make a detour.
